Alligator Snapping Turtle

Alligator Snapping Turtle
Macroclemys temminckii

This  fearsome looking creature was behind an aquarium window. Its snout was at the surface of the water. I would not want to go wading in any pond or creek that this turtle called home. We saw this reptile at the San Antonio Zoo in April, 2002.

The Alligator Snapping Turtle, Macroclemys temminckii: Giant of the Southeastern States by Diane Levine is a webpage full of information about this southeastern United States animal.
