These pictures are labeled through the perspective of Brud (me). Thus Sara
and Laura are siblings, Priscilla and Nancy are cousins, and the adults are
parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Uncle Ralph was my father's uncle
(my Grandfather Brown's brother), so I called him Uncle Ralph too.
Brownhaven, in Cushing, Maine, was the cottage of Grandmother and Grandfather
Brown. Perriwinkle Point, on Maple Juice Cove in Cushing, was the cottage
of Aunt Ruth and Uncle Gar, Priscilla and Nancy. View Point, also on Maple
Juice Cove, was the cottage of Mom (Lucy) and Dad (Freeman) and Sara, Laura,
and Brud.
My Brown grandparents were born in Connecticut and moved to Maine where they
raised their family- Freeman Fletcher Brown, Jr. and Gardner Lane Brown.
My parents moved to Connecticut where they raised Sara, Laura and me.
Every summer we vacationed in Maine where we played with our cousins and
visited our grandparents. Before my mother built our family's cottage (View
Point) we stayed variously at Brownhaven and my Grandfather French's house
in Rockland, Maine. My Grandmother French died when I was too young to remember
much about her. |
